Iron Oxide Pigment

Iron oxide pigment, an inorganic compound with the chemical formula of Fe2O3, is a reddish brown powder insoluble in water. It is mainly used as an inorganic pigment for coloring paints, rubber, plastics, buildings, etc. It can also be used as magnetic materials, edible red pigments, analytical reagents, catalysts, polishing agents, etc.


Product knowledge of iron oxide pigment:

1.Iron content: It actually refers to the percentage of Fe2O3 per unit mass of iron oxide pigment under 105℃ drying condition.
2.Specific surface area: the surface area of pigment per unit weight is the specific surface area.


3.Coloring power: The ability of colored pigments to absorb incident light. It can be expressed as a relative percentage equivalent to the tinting force of the standard pigment sample.
4.Covering power: the ability to cover the surface color of the substrate in the film-forming material. It is usually expressed by the grams of pigment contained in the paint covering an area of 1 square meter. (50nm-500nm)
5.Light resistance of iron oxide pigment: the performance of pigment to maintain its original color under certain light. The eight level system is generally adopted, and the eight level system is the best.
6.Weathering resistance of iron oxide pigment: the ability of pigments to maintain their original properties under certain natural or artificial climatic conditions. The five level system is generally adopted, and the five level system is the best.
7.Oil absorption: refers to the number of grams of refined linseed oil required for 100g pigment to form a uniform lump, whichever is smaller. The oil absorption is related to the specific surface area and structure of pigment particles.
8.Water soluble iron oxide: The water soluble substance contained in the pigment, expressed as the mass percentage of the pigment. The water-soluble content of pigments used for paint making is usually controlled below 1%.
9.Dispersion of iron oxide pigment
Pigment dispersion consists of three processes: pigment particle group, which can be dispersed into small particles in water or other homogeneous liquid media and suspended in the dispersion medium without precipitation.

Classification of application fields of iron oxide:

1. Paint: color paste, industrial paint, powder paint, anti-corrosion paint, temperature resistant paint, leather color chip, road marking paint, adhesive tape.

2. Building materials: colored asphalt, silicon bath mud, wood industry (concealing agent), building , abrasive abrasives (grinding wheel, brake pad), abrasive cloth.

3. Cement products: cement block, roof tile, calcium silicate board, artificial stone/cultural stone, mortar, micro cement, permeable pavement, flooring, and joint filler.

4. Papermaking: decorative paper, fruit bag paper, non-woven fabric.

5. Rubber and plastic: color masterbatch, plastic runway, artificial lawn, shoe materials, foam, wood plastic products, silicone rubber.
